The Board

The board of the tenant organisation WijWonen Delft consists of seven part-time board members. We are all still students and are committed to the living comfort of everyone who rents from DUWO Delft. We have weekly meetings in our monumental office building in Papenstraat 20W, next to this we spend a few hours a week performing our tasks.

Every six weeks we have a meeting with DUWO. Requests for advice, policy changes, major problems, finances, etc. are discussed. On a national level we work together with our sister associations in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Leiden and Delft. DUWO-wide” requests for advice are written here and DUWO’s general policy is discussed.

DAY-TO-DAY MANAGEMENT

Tom Schuurmans

Tom Schuurmans

Chair

As the chair I lead WijWonen Delft. I am responsible for the internal functioning of the association, I supervise the follow-up of actions of fellow board members and I manage the membership administration. In addition, I handle the files that play a role at the local level. I have a lot of contact with the municipality of Delft to make living for student tenants as attractive as possible.

Finally, I maintain the website of WijWonen, and ensure that our members are kept informed in both Dutch and English through our periodic newsletter.

Treasurer

As treasurer, I am responsible for all the financial matters of the association. I make sure all the bills are paid in time and that we don’t spend more money than we have. It’s also my job to do this as fair and transparent as possible and to see to it that the money is spent appropriately.

I’ve chosen for a function within this association because I’d like to put my effort into WijWonen, to make sure we can properly defend the interests of the tenants and because I believe I can learn a lot from this experience.

Secretary

As secretary, I am responsible for the administration and reporting with regards to the association, I monitor the activities of my fellow board members and I manage the member administration. In addition to these core tasks, I take care of processes that take place on a local level. In order to do this, I am frequently in contact with congregation Delft to make the housing situation for the student tenants as pleasant as possible.

Finally, I maintain the website with the chair and I am co-responsible for our periodic newsletter.

Commissioner Policy

In December 2018 I joined WijWonen as a Commissioner Policy. This means that I am mainly concerned with matters that also play a role outside Delft, i.e. at a national level. Policies that concern, for example, new buildings, but also very actual subjects such as internationalisation and sustainability are all discussed during meetings.

Another important task here is that I maintain good communication with both DUWO and our sister organisations to ensure smooth cooperation. In my time as a board member, I will try to look after the interests of the hiring students as best as possible in the various dossiers that come along.

Commissioner Policy

After a year in the function of Commissioner Residents, I started a new adventure in December 2019 as Commissioner Policy. As Commissioner Policy, I am mainly focussed on DUWO’s national policy, in contrast to my previous function where I focussed on local issues. All in all, I believe I can put my experience gained as Commissioner Residents to use as Commissioner Policy because I am more aware of what is happening at the local level. As Commissioner Policy I adopt a controlling as well as a co-producing role. The interests of our tenants will always be our main starting point herein.

RESIDENTS

ELIZE VAN DONGEN

ELIZE VAN DONGEN

Commissioner Residents & PR

Together with Laura, I hold the position of Commissioner Residents. This means that we are the first point of contact for the tenants when they need it. We stand up for the interests of both national and international students and always look for a suitable solution. We do this by maintaining good contact with DUWO Delft, among others.

The reason I wanted to strengthen the board is because I love to help people and later want to work in the housing market. This is a good challenge for me and I will learn a lot from it.

Commissioner Residents & PR

As Commissioner Residents & PR, I focus on WijWonen’s core task: making our tenant’s rental period as pleasant as possible. Our brand awareness is also important, so the 8500+ students that we represent in Delft can find us, in case they have any questions or problems.

The function that I occupy suits my interest very well; as a child, I always wanted to be a real estate agent, after that architect. In the meantime, I found the middle ground after completing my BSc. Civil Engineering. I chose the master Management in the Built Environment, a study that fits well with the tasks of the WijWonen board.
