The Board

The board of the tenant organisation WijWonen Delft consists of seven part-time board members. We are all still students and are committed to the living comfort of everyone who rents from DUWO Delft. Every Tuesday we meet in our monumental office building in Papenstraat 20W, next to this we spend a few hours a week performing our tasks.

Every six weeks we have a meeting with DUWO. Requests for advice, policy changes, major problems, finances, etc. are discussed. On a national level we work together with our sister associations in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Leiden and Delft. DUWO-wide” requests for advice are written here and DUWO’s general policy is discussed.

DAY-TO-DAY MANAGEMENT

TOM SCHUURMANS

TOM SCHUURMANS

Chair

As the chair I lead WijWonen Delft. I am responsible for the internal functioning of the association, I supervise the follow-up of actions of fellow board members and I manage the membership administration. In addition, I handle the files that play a role at the local level. I have a lot of contact with the municipality of Delft to make living for student tenants as attractive as possible.

Finally, I maintain the website of WijWonen, and ensure that our members are kept informed in both Dutch and English through our periodic newsletter.

MARCO XAUSA

Treasurer & Secretary

As the treasurer, I am responsible for all financial matters. In a large association such as WijWonen, the financial matters must be well arranged. It may sound simple, but in reality it turns out to be a lot more difficult.

It is my responsibility to lead the financial affairs in the right direction so that we can better support and serve our members. Besides this, I will also act as a point of contact for international student tenants.

Commissioner Policy

In December 2018 I joined WijWonen as a Commissioner Policy. This means that I am mainly concerned with matters that also play a role outside Delft, i.e. at a national level. Policy that concerns, for example, new buildings, but also very actual subjects such as internationalisation and sustainability are all discussed during meetings.

Another important task here is that I maintain good communication with both DUWO and our sister organisations to ensure smooth cooperation. In my time as a board member I will try to look after the interests of the hiring students as best as possible in the various dossiers that come along.

Commissioner Policy

As Commissioner Policy, I am involved in DUWO policy at national level. In this position I take on both a monitoring role and a co-producing role. The interests of our members are always the most important guiding principle. Furthermore, in my position I always try to find new parties to work with.

RESIDENTS

ELIZE VAN DONGEN

ELIZE VAN DONGEN

Commissioner Residents

Together with Julian I hold the position of Commissioner Residents. This means that we are the first point of contact for the tenants when they need it. We stand up for the interests of both national and international students and always look for a suitable solution. We do this by maintaining good contact with DUWO Delft, among others.

The reason I wanted to strengthen the board is because I love to help people and later want to work in the housing market. This is a good challenge for me and I will learn a lot from it.

JULIAN VAN 'T HOOFt

JULIAN VAN 'T HOOFt

Commissioner Residents

As a board member of WijWonen, I am responsible for the core task of WijWonen, which is to make the tenants’ rental period as pleasant as possible. In every practical activity of the commissioner tenant, this core comes back. Since more than 8,000 students rent from DUWO in Delft and it is our core task to look after the interests of the tenant, the position is occupied by two people.

As commissioner residents we keep in touch with the BCs, the individual tenant and of course with DUWO itself. We also deal with specific dossiers, such as the Viability budget. For example, we have drawn up a document to provide more clarity about this budget.
